Report Presented by Superintendent, Silchar Medical College & Hospital, Silchar

Silchar Medical College, being the third oldest Medical College of Assam, is the sole custodian of the health care system in Barak Valley and the adjoining regions of Tripura, Mijoram and Manipur. From its inception since 1968, Silchar Medical College has been continuing its legacy in serving the community with ardous efforts made by community leaders, social workers as well as support and cooperation from the common people.

As per the government policy, the hospital is provided a degree of autonomy in the form of the Hospital Management Society whose working is overseen by a Governing Body headed by a Chairman appointed by the government along with other members. The Superintendent of the hospital is the Member Secretary and the Principal cum Chief Superintendent is the Chairperson. All decisions taken by the college authorities – financial, organizational and infrastructural, are discussed and approved in the Governing Body and the Executive Body, the meetings of which are held at regular intervals.

The hospital receives financial support from the government in the form of budgetary sanctions every year, which is utilized for the payment of salary and allowances for the permanent staff, procuring equipment for the hospital, civil works, payment for electricity and fuel for generators and maintenance of equipment. The revenues earned by the hospital from patients in the form of investigation charges, paying-cabin usage and other services are utilized by the Hospital Management Society for payment of remuneration of the Society staff, procuring of consumables – reagents, x-ray plates, minor civil works, EPF payment etc. The finances are audited as per government rules.

I take immense pride in the outstanding achievements of our esteemed students. From Neurosurgery to advanced Cathlab, our hospital service is gradually transcending to the highest level of critical care. Still, a lot of path has to be covered to achieve our desired goal i.e. to make the institute one of the premier Medical College of our country.

I, on behalf of the Hospital Administration, extend my profound gratitude to all our doctors, nurses, healthcare workers, students and everybody associated with the college whose unconditional support has been the backbone of our success.

With great enthusiasm, we look forward to take Silchar Medical College to a bright future.

Jai Hind
