Department of Microbiology

The department is located in the 3rd and 4th floor of the four storied building that houses Pathology department in the ground and 1st floor. It has the following divisions- Bacteriology, Mycology, Parasitological, virology, Immunology, TB laboratory. , SRL, ICTC under NACO and IDSP. Recently a state of the art Viral Research and Diagnostic centre under ICMR has been established in the department. The department has also its divisions in the Central Composite Laboratory of the Institute .It is a well equipped department with modern facilities like Automated Blood culture, Elisa reader, CD4 counter, PCR etc

Academics:

Both UG and PG training is rendered and the annual intake of MD course in the subject is 4(four) per year. The PG course is recognised by MCII. The Department trains students of DMLRT course also. Various research projects under ICMR, DBT and in collaboration with Institutes like AIIMS, JIPMER etc are going on in the department. EQA workshop on ICTC, PPTCT, orientation programme on IDSP and sequestration programme on biomedical waste under Hospital infection control are regularly organised by the department. Research papers are regularly published by the faculty members both in National and International journals.
