Department of Pathology

The Pathology department of the Institute is having the following divisions

Histopathology, Cyto pathology, Hematology, clinical pathology and Blood Bank. The Clinical pathology division is functioning in the Central Composite Laboratory of the Institute. The blood bank is a licensed one and has component separation facility. The department is equipped with various sophisticated equipment which include Cryostat for frozen section biopsy, IHC, automatic tissue processor, Cyto spin, 6 part haematology analyser and automated coagulometer, Capillary electrophoresis etc.

Academics:

The department runs Both UG and PG courses. The annual intake of student in MD course in the subject is 7(seven) and recognised by NMC. In addition there is also B Sc MLT, Diploma course in Medical Laboratory Technology. The staff members are actively involved in research works and publish research papers on regular basis. The NCRP (ICMR) research project entitled “Population based Cancer registry- Cachar district” and HBCR ( Hospital Based Cancer Registry is located in the department and Professor Shah Alam Sheikh is the Principal Investigator of the project and Dr. Ajit Kr Dey, Assoc. Professor of Community Medicine is Co-PI. Dr. Rajarshi Bhowal, Assistant Professor of the department of Biochemistry is the Nodal Officer of the Medical Research Unit(MRU) established under DHR/ICMR. The department organizes CME, workshops and regional conferences from time to time.
